Here are ten top tips which struck me among the many different points covered:

1. Write slowly and larger than normal with the pen because you can always reduce your text later if you need to2. It’s good to change the background colour and write with light coloured pen, because white can be harsh on eyes and bad for dyslexics. Dark backgrounds also save energy.3. Select text from other documents (Word files), copy and paste to board (the formatting will be conserved), or just drag from a document or from internet (make sure you show the URL to cover copyright obligations)4. Highlighters are fun and useful, and you use “funky” pens to mark stress (smileys)5. Use the “magic box” technique to produce random questions (object and text in same colour “hides” the text)6. Use layers in a similar way to make correct answers remain visible (top layer) while incorrect ones are hidden (bottom layer), the magic box being in the middle layer7. Choose Googe images and drag into IWB page via the bottom toolbar bar on Windows (credit all images at the end of your file)8. Use masking (either with the curtain/screenshade or using shapes or pictures) to increase suspense as a hidden image is gradually revealed9. Make boxes with text labels (using the grouping function) for cloze tests: if you use a light colour, you can also make photocopies for learners to write on10. Internet: drag the url from your browser (VideoNation – BBC short videos) or add the weblink to an object (image or text) on the IWB page. Let students vote for which video they want to watch based on screenshots from videos.
