Description
In this task, third graders, having read a story called ‘Gentle Giant’s Garden’ create a new version of it on the iPad. They first draw and cut out the assigned characters, as well as the background (garden). Then they re-create the story as a combination of narration and dialogue. In order to complete the text, they need to listen to the story on the iPad, and fill in the gaps in the dialogue. The children then take a photo of their character and make it speak using the app Chatter Pix, which allows users to animate a picture with a 30 second recording. The learners speak on behalf of their character, based on the story that they had previously read. Moreover, the characters are then moved around on a background, and photographed using the Stop Motion App whenever they change place in order to create an illusion of movement. The stop motion film and the videos created with the Chatter Pix app are then combined in order to create the final product. The outcome was then shared with second grade pupils at the same school. Before the video was shown, the third graders introduced some of the vocabulary to the second graders in order to facilitate the understanding of the story.
