Description
EFL learners in a French high school conduct a tandem exchange with a similar class in the Netherlands. They record short videos using a class set of iPods which the teacher shares online with the Dutch class. The pupils introduce themselves and their city, then participate in a guessing game where they describe local landmarks or cultural icons (buildings, sports team, culinary specialities). They make a second video to record their guesses and respond to their remote partners’ guesses.
Clips
In the second clip in the sequence the learners again rehearse and record the clues they want to give for French cultural objects, each pupil providing a pre-arranged segment in an order which has also been planned. We see some animation in their faces as they frame their messages in ways to maintain a measure of suspense while also conveying their emotional attachment to the symbols of French or more local culture they have chosen.
